The first step is to find a bat that is right for you. Many players are influenced by the size of the bat and not how effectively they can use the bat. You want a bat that is going to make you the best hitter you can be. There are so many different bats out on the market today, so you should be able to find one that you really like. There are bats for men and women both. You have bats that are end loaded and there are bats that are more balanced. You have bats with handles thick and thin and barrels sizes range from 9 inches to 14 inches. So there is a variety of bats out there to choose from. I always said that the only way to truly judge a bat for yourself was to SWING IT YOURSELF, before you buy one on word alone. So take your time when choosing your equipment. A perfect bat for me would be a 14 inch barrel with a thin handle and weights 33 ounces. You want to find a bat that you can start and stop your swing effectively.

I feel that bat speed is very important in your swing, so you want a bat that you can get good velocity with. And I don't mean taking a bat and just trying to swing it as hard as you can. I call that swinging wildly. I want your swing to be a fast controlled swing. I always told myself to swing the bat "with a vengeance" . Bat speed is very important, but I think it is only 1/3 of your swing. Together with arm extension and the rolling of the wrist you have a complete swing. So if you can swing a 30 ounce bat the same bat speed as with a 28 ounce bat why not use the heavier bat. I know that once you make impact it will slow your swing down but I think it would be harder to stop something more heavier than something lighter. So before you make your final bat selection try and swing different weights to see just which bat you swing more effectively.
