I feel that there are two parts to hitting.
The first part is the fundamentals that get you prepared in the box
The second part is your actual swing.

FUNDAMENTALS
ACTUAL SWING

Welcome  to my Bomb Squad / Hitting Tips portion of my web site. I have put together an easy to learn step by step guide to becoming a better hitter. The first part of being a better hitter is putting in the time that is needed to improve. Practice can only make you better. I am a firm believer in practice makes perfect so you know where I am coming from.

One of the reasons I put this web page together was so that I could share with you some of the knowledge that I have learned about hitting these past 25 years. One of the most important things about trying to become a better hitter is you have to be a good learner. When I was young and still a green horn all my coaches use to tell me that I would not reach my prime in the game of softball until I was 30 years old.

I felt then that I was as good as I was going to get but my elders always told me different. So I use to study other hitters. There is nothing I like better than playing softball and that is watching softball. So when I wasn't playing I was always watching somebody else play. Plus my coach Dave Neale was always looking for good talent. So after playing and watching all those games of softball I thought I would share some of my views with you. I have learned some very good approaches to the art of hitting and I am willing to share those ideas with you.

Note: There is a discussion going on in todays softball world on whether or not you should try and hit the bottom part of the ball to be a successful hitter or just concentrate on hitting the ball. I believe it is up to the individual. I know for a fact that Hank Garris from TPS has always tried hitting the bottom half of the ball. Look at how successful he has been over the years. There is none better.

Then I look at myself and say that I have been pretty successful myself, and my philosophy is to hit the center of the ball with a good fluid swing and let the technique of swing work its course. Or should we say let the bat do the talking. Either way I say is successful. That's the great thing about hitting. You can always watch some ones swing and pick something out of it that will help your swing. It all gets back to the saying, you have to be a good learner to become a great hitter.
